Samir Makdisi is emeritus professor of Economics and served as deputy president of AUB from 1993-98. He was founding director of AUB's Institute of Financial Economics (1984-2007) and has published seminal works on democracy, economics, and development in the Arab world. He was Lebanon's Minister of Economy and Trade in 1992.
