Professor John McAlaney

Professor of Psychology

Professor John McAlaney is a Professor of Psychology and Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Cyberpsychology degree at Bournemouth University. His research focuses on social psychological factors of risky behaviours, including in online settings. He has co-edited several books that relate to cybercrime, including Psychological and Behavioral Examinations in Cyber Security (2018), Cyber Influence and Cognitive Threats (2019) and Emerging Cyber Threats and Cognitive Vulnerabilities (2019). In addition he has co-edited ‘Higher Education in the Gulf: Quality Drivers’ with his colleague Dr. Reynaldo Gacho Segumpan, based on the 2019 Gulf Research Meeting. His work has been used as the basis for policy documents on cyber security and behaviour change within the British Psychological Society. He has advised industry, charity, and government bodies in the UK and internationally on the role of psychology in understanding cybercrime.
